MARINE SERRE
Winner of the LVMH Prize in 2017, Marine Serre quickly made a name for herself in the fashion world for her futuristic creations and her “reality-fashion” “I use fashion to talk about what is happening in the world rather than to escape from it ”she said during her fall-winter 2020-2021 show.
In recent weeks, the young French designer has benefited from a peak in searches, reaching an increase of 426% in 48 hours. The reason ? Its logo in the shape of a crescent moon has been seen on a multitude of celebrities, starting with Beyoncé in her clip Black Is King released on July 31. In this feature film which aims to shed light on the Black Lives Matter movement, the queen of pop and her dancers wear tight jumpsuits branded with this celestial print. As an undisputed fan of Beyoncé, singer Adèle paid tribute to her by photographing herself in a tight top, also signed by the designer. Since then, research about this print has continued to increase, as the global Lyst platform has seen.
“I thought this symbol was the most open,” Marine Serre said in an interview with English Vogue. “You see this logo everywhere: a moon on vintage clothing, [on jewelry] at Claire's, in the [Japanese series from manga shōjo] Sailor Moon, and, of course, in Arab countries. In this ultra-logoed period, I said to myself, I don't want a logo with my name, I want something that means more. The moon is the symbol of women, so I thought it couldn't be better! "
